Il Leonardino:Itineraries

Il Leonardino seeks to pay homage to the genius of young Da Vinci and his love of nature.
There are 2 itineraries: the upper one of about 17 km and the lower one of about 19 km.
Both are transitable on foot in 5/6 hours or by mountain bike in 2/3 hours. It is also possible to divide the itinerary in half at San Baronto or Larciano, making it easier and more accessible for families with children.
We tried to imagine the time when the young boy was still living in Anchiano, when the bells of the neighbouring villages could be heard ringing loud and clear in the valley.
Thanks to the collaboration of Marco Tani of the Associazione Montalbano Domani, we have traced the itinerary with two possible routes. An upper one on the ridge of Montalbano and a lower one down in the valley and the Padule (marshes).
The upper route has more historic-cultural features with a walk inside the ancient walls of the Barco Reale established by the Medici in 1600 and some unexpected views of the domes of Pistoia and Florence. The lower route instead offers a full immersion into nature among the olive trees, vegetable gardens planted in the terraced vineyards, thick forests and an exciting descent or ascent (depending on where you start) amidst the ancient stones of Orbignano. The itineraries can also be broken down into stages with shorter distances.
